Sign Language Acquisition

Research shows that deaf and hearing children will learn sign language naturally if their parents and other people around them use the language. They will learn sign language in the same way as other children learn spoken languages like English 1

In Kenya, 90% of 200,000 deaf Kenyan children today struggle to access sign language Kenya Society for Deaf Children/World Health Organization (WHO) report. The delayed first language acquisition affects the mental lexicon’s organization, leading to detrimental language development for deaf children. More often than not children born deaf rapidly lose the ability to learn language by three if sign language is not introduced.


We have developed a dual assistive technology that will Increase attention span & memory hence working towards creating each matching and matching it with the tile helps deaf children to develop concentration and memory skills, preparing them the essential skills for future academic success. Dual assistive technology has Tons of Fun for deaf children to play the game alone or take turns to play with siblings or friends, this enhances and keeps deaf children busy for hours in educational time.

The solution provides early exposure to sign language and fingerspelling that enables deaf learners to communicate effectively and develop psycho-motor skills and fine-motor.
